Love it or hate it, Valentine’s Day is almost here. Ahead of this most polarizing of holidays, we thought it would be fun to take a little trip down memory lane and revisit how KFC took advantage of Cupid’s arrow to connect with customers, pull a few heartstrings, and make Valentine’s Day unforgettable.
5. Date Night Table
Unveiled for Valentine’s Day, KFC U.K. offered a romantic date night table that included waiter service, linen napkins, flowers, a silver candelabra and a soft drink sommelier.
4. Fried Chicken Bouquets
In 2017, KFC in New Zealand released a limited-edition fried chicken bouquet to help people show their special someone how much they really cared. Each bouquet included a mix of popcorn chicken, crispy strips and Original Recipe drumsticks. Yum!
3. Scratch n’ Sniff Valentine’s Day cards
KFC U.S. released fried chicken-scented Valentine’s Day cards to promote its $10 Chicken Share meal. Along with the aroma of our iconic Original Recipe chicken, the cards featured Colonel Sanders and cheeky messages like “I fell in love the first moment I slaw you” and “We’re two peas in a chicken pot pie.”
2. Bucket Bae
KFC India’s Bucket Bae was a chicken loving robot touted as “your one true love that follows you unconditionally and shares your love for finger lickin’ good chicken.” On Valentine’s Day, Bucket Bae mingled with fans across select cities and then five lucky consumers who managed to “woo” Bae on dating apps, were able to walk into the sunset with Bucket Bae (and a bucket of fried chicken).
1. The faux bearskin rug that looked like Colonel Sanders
In 2019, KFC U.S. celebrated Valentine’s Day with an online contest on Reddit offering super fans the chance to win date nights for a year with the brand's famous founder, Colonel Harland Sanders, in this very rare and special form.
