KFC: So good it makes you say “I do!”

February 12, 2021

From roses to chocolates to fried chicken (?!) it’s almost time to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Yup. Believe it or not, we have many customers tell us that KFC played an integral part in their love stories. And since we love creating memorable experiences for our fans, we’ve been known to help these love stories grow and even help bring them full circle on occasion. Here are two of our favorite examples:

The World’s First Official KFC-Themed Wedding

The world’s first official KFC-themed wedding was held in Australia last March after KFC held a contest there asking fans to describe why a KFC wedding would be their dream celebration. Kate and Harrison Cann were selected after submitting their own version of "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" theme tune about their love for each other… and KFC.

The Canns wedding featured personalized chicken buckets, a special cake, a KFC celebrant, a photo booth, a Colonel-style singer, and a KFC food truck for hungry guests.

The couple had their first date at a KFC in 2017 so the KFC-themed wedding truly brought their love story full circle.

The #KFCProposal

The #KFCProposal that was posted on YouTube in November 2019 showed Hector Mkansi proposing to Nonhlanhla Soldaat halfway through their meal at a KFC restaurant in South Africa.

As the video went viral (51,000 views to date), we learned Mkansi and Soldaat had gotten married in 2011 in a small traditional ceremony because that was all they could afford at the time. Mkansi explained, “We had the ceremony but I knew this wasn’t what my wife and I wanted.” So in 2019, Mkansi bought a new ring for his wife and decided to propose to her at her favorite restaurant, KFC. Mkansi even enlisted the help of the restaurant team to hide the ring in Soldaat’s meal box.
KFC South Africa was so moved by the couple’s story that it provided a wedding planner for the couple’s big day.
